SpaceX delays rocket launch; landing is iffy

SpaceX postponed today’s launch of the SES-9 telecommunications satellite and its next attempt to bring the Falcon 9 rocket’s first-stage booster back to a seagoing platform.

“Looking to try again tomorrow. … Rocket and spacecraft remain healthy,” the company reported in a tweet, sent out 31 minutes before the scheduled launch time of 3:46 p.m. PT.

Liftoff was rescheduled for the same time on Thursday.

No reason for the one-day delay was immediately given; however, there were strong winds at the launch site at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. Launch managers may have decided to take advantage of Thursday’s more favorable outlook.
