SpaceX is ready for today’s launch of the SES-9 telecommunications satellite and will try bringing the Falcon 9 rocket’s first-stage booster back to a seagoing platform – but don’t be disappointed if the landing doesn’t succeed.

The company said as much in its press kit for the launch, due to take place at 3:46 p.m. PT at Cape Canaveral Air Force Station in Florida. “A successful landing is not expected,” SpaceX said.

Forecasters say there’s a 60 percent chance of acceptable weather for launch. SpaceX plans to provide online video coverage of the countdown starting about 20 minutes before liftoff.
